On tonight’s episode of Glee, Broadway superstar Kristin Chenoweth and the Glee cast covered Carrie Underwood’s “Last Name.”
While we love Carrie’s more, we have to say it was pretty good!

It’s no surprise to Carrie fans that Miss Underwood ends up throwing in a few classic rock covers during her live shows (including “Paradise City” and now “Home Sweet Home”) but the life in country music that Carrie has been able to give to rock songs can come as a surprise to the original artists.
“Carrie Underwood, for some crazy ass reason, has made ‘I Remember You’ a country rock hit. She does it in her concerts — a full production with backing vocals and string section, slide guitars … and she does all the screams at the end.”
“If you could have told me 20 years ago that ‘I Remember You’ would be a country rock staple — which Carrie Underwood has made it, they play it on country stations along with her version of ‘Home Sweet Home’ — it’s just so crazy to me.”
Bach has been dipping his toe into country music after winning CMT’s show “Gone Country,” but never thought “I Remember You” would go beyond a being power rock ballad, let alone a country rock song.
Crazy or not, ever since American Idol, Carrie has been bridging gaps as a crossover artist and we can’t wait to see what she does next. (Thumbnail image via amytx84 on Flickr)

While this isn’t a traditional “Carrie Cover” because it’s her singing, at the grand opening of the American Idol Experience, Carrie Underwood took the stage with David Cook to perform Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.”
As all Carrie fans know, she’s no stranger to classic rock and often covers classic songs during concerts, so it’s always nice to see Carrie have fun on a big stage like this (watch in HQ).
While a capella groups and YouTube stars will continue to cover Carrie’s music, one of the more unusual, yet great covers of “Before He Cheats” came from R&B star Joe Thomas, better known as just “Joe.”
Joe changes the song to “Before I Cheat” and gives the song an R&B feel (”Right now, she’s standing up singing some ghetto version of Mariah karaoke”) and sings the song from a guy’s perspective. As always, Joe’s vocals are great.
People have gotten pretty fond of calling Carrie a “Crossover Artist,” and this convergence of R&B and country through this cover seems to tell the story pretty well.
We’re always looking for great Carrie Underwood covers online and a capella group Capital Green from Michigan State performed an amazing cover of “Before He Cheats” at the 2007 ICCA’s competition.
Check it out!
